Design-Build team spends day at Whittier June 6

On June 6, the architect and contractor team working on the new Whittier Elementary will spend a day at the school to meet students and staff. This visit will help them better understand what a typical school day looks like and design a space that truly supports learning and community. It’s a chance for the design-build team to see Whittier in action and connect with the people who will use the new building every day.

Whittier DAC begins meeting in June to help shape the design of the future school

Planning for the new Whittier Elementary School is officially underway. Starting in June, a Design Advisory Committee (DAC) made up of Whittier teachers, staff, parents, and community members will begin meeting to review design options and share ideas to help shape the future of the school.

Over the next 5–6 months, the DAC will explore possibilities for a new learning environment that best supports student success. Their insights and recommendations will be presented to Tacoma Public Schools leadership to help guide final decisions.

This collaborative effort reflects the district’s commitment to inclusive planning and ensuring that school communities have a voice in shaping the spaces where students thrive.

Plans for Whittier

Whittier’s replacement project is scheduled for construction between 2025 -2027. During this time, students and staff will remain on campus, continuing to learn and grow while their new school is built.
